Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate Injection
Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate
This product is a colorless clear liquid.
Dexamethasone's effect is basically similar to hydrocortisone, but has a stronger action, longer duration of effect, and fewer side effects. The anti-inflammatory effects and gluconeogenesis are 25 times greater than those of hydrocortisone, while water and sodium retention and potassium excretion effects are slightly less than those of hydrocortisone. The inhibitory effect on pituitary-adrenocortical axis was stronger. In addition to the above effects, this product can also be used to induce labor in the same period of delivery of female animals, but it can increase the retention rate of the placenta, delay lactation, and the uterus returns to normal state later. After intramuscular administration of the drug to dogs, it shows rapid systemic action, reaching peak blood concentration in 0.5 hours, elimination half-life of about 48 hours, and is mainly excreted through feces and urine.
Interaction with Other Medicinal Products
(1) Liver enzyme inducers such as phenobarbital may promote the metabolism of this class of drugs and reduce its efficacy.
(2) It may accelerate the elimination of salicylate, reduce the efficacy, and may cause peptic ulcers when combined.
(3) It may reduce the efficacy of internally administered anticoagulants, and the dosage of anticoagulants should be increased appropriately when they are combined.
(4) Thiazide diuretics can promote potassium excretion, so potassium supplementation should be taken in combination.
Dexamethasone is a synthetic corticosteroid with a potent anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic action and affect glucose metabolism. It is used for inflammatory and allergic diseases, bovine ketonemia and pregnancy toxemia in sheep and goat.
For intramuscular or intravenous use. Daily dose, horse 0.5~1 ml; Cattle 1~4 ml; Sheep, goat, pig 0.8~2.4 ml; Dogs, cats, 0.025~0.2 ml.
(1) Strong retention of water and sodium and potassium excretion effects.
(2) It has a strong immuno-suppressive effect.
(3) The use of large doses of this product in late pregnancy can cause abortion.
(4) In dogs, it may cause retardation, dry coat, weight gain, panting, vomiting, diarrhea, elevated hepatic drug-metabolizing enzymes, pancreatitis, gastrointestinal ulcers, lipemia, initiation or exacerbation of diabetes mellitus, muscular dystrophy, behavioral changes (depression, lethargy, aggressiveness) that may require discontinuation of administration.
(5) In cats, occasional excessive drinking, excessive eating, excessive urination, weight gain, diarrhea, or depression. Prolonged treatment with high dose administration can lead to disruption of corticosteroid secretion.
